Hash House a go-go

Hash House a go-go is located outside of downtown San Diego. They serve breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. They've won many awards and have been featured on Chefs vs City and on the Travel Channel. Now what about their food? YUMMY! Came here for Saturday brunch and it was packed full of people waiting outside to get a table. A lot of locals rave and rant about Hash House so even with an empty stomach and a 40 minute wait, I wasn't about to turn my back.
Now, I know I had hungry eyes once seated, but when you look/read at the menu, you can't help but be super indecisive. Solution: come back and eat at Hash House tomorrow. I came during the 2 weeks of celebrating their 10 year anniversary, so I ordered from their specials menu the Duck-bacon sausage hash house - tossed with crispy potatoes, 2 eggs, homemade biscuit, and fruit. My eating buddy had the House roasted chicken w/ mushroom, sliced market yellow tomato all crowned w/ basil pesto cream and two basted eggs benedict.
When the plates came out, our eyes seriously bulged out of their sockets. The portions are stacked! Humungously huge! Even looking around, the pancakes are the size of a large pizza, meat just overflowing out of the sandwich, fried chicken piled high on stacks of waffles....oh yea, the food is out of this world delicious!!! You HAVE to eat here when you come to San Diego!

We topped our food with a ginger-lime mimosa and some cucumber-mint cocktail good for hangovers. I wish they had a cocktail for food comas!

Food Diary: China

The Chinese food in America is good. The Chinese food in China is not good. OK, that's sad. But it's the truth. It's edible but I can't guarantee that your stomach will agree. Not too sure what it is, but I'm assuming its something in the water. Either that or you have to eat with a local foodie that you trust.
My friend in China took me to where the farmers have rows of rural restaurants. He tipped that the farmers save the fresh quality veggies for themselves, so you are better off eating at the farms than the restaurants.
pigeon soup with meatballs...surprisingly delicious
cold chicken
During my stay it was a hit or miss. You get familiar foods at the hotel, but when you get the plate it looks VERY unimpressive. Then you go to the farmers restaurant but you question the sanitation, however, the food does taste very fresh.
Then I ate at a local Chinese restaurant...why do the Chinese order SO MUCH food?! There was only 3 of us eating. We stuffed our bellies full and at the end of the meal it looked like we didn't dent the plates!
oxtail
fried bananas coated with glazed sugar - BOMBTASTIC!

LA has oranges, China has lychees....China: WIN

I think the Chinese stay so thin not only because of the humidity - you sweat 24/7, but because they drink A LOT of tea. They have tea all day, throughout their meals, and at work. I always buy tea in China and bring back home as gifts for friends and family.

This by far was THE BEST thing I ate in China. In Shenzhen I was taken to a Portugese/Chinese restaurant and they ordered an oyster. Not just any oyster. It was jazzed up with some kind of bechamel sauce and mashed potato and then broiled so that it had this burnt crust at the edges. The oyster was as big as my palm too! When my fork broke into it, it just oozed of goodness.
But in the end, when I got back to Hong Kong, all I was feigning for was a good American burger.

Food Diary: Hong Kong

I know it's been almost 2 months, but I've been super busy - plus our 3some is down to 2. But HEY! I went to Hong Kong and China for 2 weeks on business and when I wasn't working, I was eating!! Hong Kong people looooooove to eat! That's all there seems to do out here. With all the food, how do they stay so skinny?!
I went to a food event opening one of the days I was out there. My new friend, Jennifer of Princess Cakes, just opened up a pastry school outside of Hong Kong. Anyone can sign up for a class and learn how to make sweet, tasty treats. At the opening I got to sample soooo many delectable goodies!
